Quality control is the next stage in our Good Translation Practice and takes place after the translator has finished but before delivery to the end customer. First and foremost, the translator must proofread his or her own translation, which normally means that he or she checks the entire translation against the source text to ensure that everything has been translated, that nothing has been omitted and that there are no linguistic or translation errors.
The translator sends the translation to the company that we co-operate with in the relevant market. An experienced linguistic specialist will then check the translation for any errors. Depending on the scope of the text and the schedule, this quality control will be carried out on all or part of the translation. It is this check that we pay extra for, and which is one of the most important factors in ensuring high quality translations.
Whenever the customer’s schedule and project economy allow it, we carry out a third quality control in-house at our office. We do not of course have a detailed knowledge of every language, but we are good at languages and we are good at finding objective errors such as untranslated text, linguistic inconsistency and layout errors.
The final stage in Good Translation Practice is the end customer’s feedback on our translation. It is important for us to receive both praise and constructive criticism, so that we can revise our procedures where necessary. Your feedback is particularly important on projects for which we have used translation software, because if you alter our translation we will need to add your corrections to the translation memory. Otherwise, it could happen that we will continue to use an outdated version of the translation in the next project.
